GP Madrid in Faroff Spain has just been completed and once again another metagame is in place. Week 2 - Tier 1 Decks - Janurary 17, 2000
GP Seattle has come and gone and a new set of top 8 decks have created a new meta game of top tier decks.
With heavy representation of Mono-Red, Counter-Oath and Counter-Sliver, these three now represent the top tier of Extended deck construction.
MONO-RED 4 Incinerate 3 Price of Progress 4 Hammer of Bogardan 4 Monk Fanatic
3 Viashino Sandstalker

4 Fireblast
3 Ball Lightning

Good Lord, every Season a new incarnation of this thing rears its ugly head. What can I say? It still wins.
COUNTER-SLIVER
3 Demonic Consultation 3 Swords to Plowshares 3 Disenchant
4 Muscle Sliver
4 Winged Sliver
4 Acidic Sliver
4 Crystalline Sliver

Sideboard
3 Ebony Charm

3 Survival of the Fittest
This is what I played at PTQ Toronto. It routinely beats the crap out of Necro and isn't terrible against anything. The mana, however, is truly ugly.

4 Brainstorm 3 Impulse 4 Force of Will
4 Counterspell
1 Forbid
1 Disrupt
2 Gaea's Blessing
1 Morphling
1 Spike Weaver
1 Spike Feeder
4 Enlightened Tutor
2 Swords to Plowshares
2 Oath of Druids

1 Phyrexian Furnace
1 Compost
2 Oath of Druids
1 Crater Hellion
1 Aura of Silence
1 Circle of Protection : Red
1 Sacred Ground
2 Mana Short
3 Annul
This is the version that Bob Maher won GP Seattle with. Similar to the version of week 1, this version has cut back on the red for Spike Weaver. making the mana a little better. However, which version is actually better, remains to be seen.

I was always had a soft spot for Counter-Oath. I designed an early version that I played in the last round of Extended PTQ's, however, that version wasn't half as good as this one (Bob Maher's/Ben Pun's-1st PT Chicago). This is definately one of the best decks available now and of tier 1 quality.
